Lane Kiffin has had to deal with a ton of staff turnover since the conclusion of the 2021 season and the Sugar Bowl in January. And after seeing his special teams coordinator Coleman Hutzler leave for the same position at Alabama, he was once again in search of a replacement.

Now, the vacancy has been filled by Marshall’s special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer, as first reported by John Brice of Football Scoop. He came to Marshall after three seasons at Arizona as the Wildcats’ special teams coordinator on Kevin Sumlin’s staff. Before his stint in Tucson, he was a special teams quality control analyst at Texas A&M. He worked with then-special teams coordinator Jeff Banks while also helping with the tight ends.

Springer brings an impressive reputation in the coaching community as one of the up-and-coming assistants in the country. He primarily recruited the state of Texas while he was with the Aggies and was able to sign several Lone Star State prospects during his time in Tucson.

In his lone season with the Thundering Herd, Springer’s special teams unit was one of the country’s best at blocking kicks. Marshall finished tied for 10th nationally with four blocked kicks and also blocked a punt.

Ole Miss’ newest staffer played collegiately at UTEP from 2007-11, where he was a standout linebacker. In 33 career games, he made 161 tackles, 10.0 tackles for loss and one interception. Upon graduation, he was on staff with the Miners for four seasons.
