Ole Miss trending towards having Connor Spencer available for Kentucky series

Last weekend No. 9 Ole Miss was without its appointed closer with Connor Spencer sitting out the series against Florida due to a sore shoulder.
With another short week and another series that starts on Thursday, this week at Kentucky, the Rebels (22-6, 6-3 Southeastern Conference) might be back to full strength or at the very least have all its arms available in the bullpen to some degree.
Wednesday’s availability report released ahead of the the series in Lexington had Ole Miss list Spencer as ‘Probable.’ This tracks with the update Rebels head coach Mike Bianco provided when asked about Spencer after Tuesday’s run-rule win over Jackson State.
“He threw a bullpen (on Tuesday). Looked strong,” Bianco said. “One of the big question marks will be how he feels (on Wednesday). But the last few days, each day feeling better and better. I didn’t see the bullpen but talked to (pitching coach Joel) Mangrum and he’s like, ‘He hit 93 in the bullpen, easily, and felt comfortable and looked like his normal self.'”
In eight appearances this season Spencer has a 0-1 record and 0.93 earned run average to go with a pair of saves. He’s allowed seven runs, one earned, off five hits with nine strikeouts and six walks.

Kentucky (17-9, 4-5) has a pair of players that will be out for at least the first game and two more that could see some action.
Outfielder Will Marcy and left-handed pitcher Logan Grubb are listed as ‘Out.’ Marcy was injured in a midweek game against Northern Illinois on March 11 and expected to miss extended time. He only appeared in 12 games, starting eight of them, and hitting .115 on the season with one run batted in.
The two Wildcats that are listed as ‘Probable’ are infielder Patrick Herrera and utility player Ryan Schwartz. Herrera is currently the third best hitter for Kentucky with a .338 average and 19 runs batted in plus a home run. Schwartz has played in four games this season.
Game one of the series is set for 6 p.m. CT Thursday on SEC Network.
