Ole Miss two-sport star Tywone Malone is already hitting home runs
Former four-star defensive lineman Tywone Malone signed with Ole Miss as a two-sport star in the 2021 class. The Bergen Catholic (N.J.) prospect was not only a top-100 recruit and the No. 1 player in New Jersey on the gridiron, but he also lettered in baseball as well.
And now he is launching baseballs out of Oxford-University Stadium during a baseball scrimmage.
The 6-foot-4, 315 pounder went opposite field with this homer, blasting it 378 feet to right center with an exit velocity well over 100mph. Malone was also one of the standouts at the plate on Sunday, finishing 2-for-5 with three runs batted in and two runs scored.
The big guy figures to be in the rotation for some at-bats this season and could see some playing time at first base. And if he continues to swing it with that kind of bat speed and launch angle, the at-bats and playing time could increase.
As a Rebel football player in 2021, Malone played in just one game for the Rebels, making three tackles and one sack. Head coach Lane Kiffin and defensive line coach Randall Joyner were taking it slow with the former 11th-ranked defensive line prospect after a knee injury during his senior season pumped the brakes to a potential breakout freshman season.

The athleticism and versatility to play two sports, though, should help Malone stay in game shape year-round and give him an opportunity for some active recovery on his injured knee as he prepares not only for his freshman season at Swayze Field, but for his sophomore season at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Ole Miss Baseball opens its 2022 season on February 18 with a three-game series against Charleston Southern.
