Ole Miss vs. Memphis: How to watch, live stream, start time, TV channel
Ole Miss men’s basketball is once again off to a 6-0 start to the season for a second straight year. This time last year the Rebels traveled up to Memphis to take on the Tigers inside FedEx Forum in what was the start of the unraveling of the season.
This year is different with Chris Beard now the head coach with a rebuilt Ole Miss roster that looks more competitive against this year’s edition of Memphis.
Both the Tigers and Rebels received votes in this week’s Associated Press poll. Memphis is essentially the No. 26 team in the country, being the team with the most votes received outside the Top 25. A win over the Tigers would be a major feather in the cap for the Rebels and set up the potential chance to go through non-conference undefeated with Memphis the toughest team remaining on the slate, on paper.
The Rebels are coming off their largest margin of victory of the season, a 20-point win over North Carolina State on Tuesday in the first ACC/SEC Challenge. To expound on the positives this week Beard also received good news from the NCAA on the same day that center Moussa Cisse is now cleared and immediately eligible to play.
“When they’re playing the way they want to play, when they’re playing well, I think they’re as good as anybody in college basketball,” Chris Beard said on Thursday. “I think that’s been proven this early-season. Can’t speak for (Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway), but I’m sure their team’s kind of a work in progress like ours is, too, but he definitely has the pieces in terms of guard play, interior play. They have a defensive identity, and on offense they’re just really hard to guard. Some of the best one-on-one players in college basketball and real speed at their point guard position.”
