The Ole Miss women’s basketball team is rolling and not much looks to be in the way of slowing them down anytime soon after ending more streaks on Thursday.

For only the second time in program history Ole Miss defeated Georgia on the road in Athens at Stegeman Colisuem, defeating the Bulldogs 66-58. The win was the first time since 2010.

The win also puts Ole Miss (16-2) 5-0 to start Southeastern Conference play for the first time since 2007 when the Rebels also started conference play at 5-0.

Forward Madison Scott continued her torrid pace of play in recent weeks with her eight consecutive game in double digits, scoring 18 points to go with seven rebounds.

Scott was behind guard Angel Baker who has become the offensive weapon for Ole Miss. Baker scored a game high 20 points and pulled down four rebounds.

Baker has the offense side handled while transfer senior Myah Taylor has become a force on the defensive end of the floor. Though on Thursday Taylor helped become a facilitator on offense with a game high eight assists.

The duo of Baker and Taylor are the two main cogs to the machine that is Ole Miss.

“I think Myah is the head of the snake from the defensive end where Angel is the head of the snake from the offensive end,” said Ole Miss head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin on Wednesday. “Myah has her toughness and competitive that’s been huge but we also had (Scott) and Snudda (Collins) who’s been in our system for a long time as well.”

McCuin instills a pod-system when breaking down the SEC schedule and so far Ole Miss is playing with house money.

The goal is for Ole Miss to, at worst, go 2-2 in each of the four four-game pods that make up the 16-game SEC schedule. Through one pod and a game the Rebels have not dropped a game, building on a NCAA Tournament resume that is already considered a lock in mid-January.

Tougher games await Ole Miss as the January portion of the two-month SEC schedule is kinder. No. 1 South Carolina and No. 5 LSU still await in February.

Heading into Thursday’s game Ole Miss was sitting at No. 30 in the NET Rankings, which McCuin puts more stock in than a Top 25 ranking at this stage of the season. In the live RPI Rankings the Rebels jumped to No. 40 following the win over the Bulldogs.

Ole Miss returns home to host Alabama (13-4, 2-2) on Sunday at 4 p.m. CT on SEC Network. If the Rebels can get off to a 6-0 start by defeating the Crimson Tide, those votes could start rolling their way on Monday.
