Ole Miss WR Juice Wells makes number change for Gator Bowl vs. Duke
Ole Miss wide receiver Antwane ‘Juice’ Wells is wearing No. 7 for the Rebels against Duke in the Gator Bowl Thursday night. It’s a change for the Richmond, Va. native from No. 3, which he’s worn all year with the team.
In December, Wells all but announced his Ole Miss football departure after just one year. He arrived in Oxford after spending 2022 and 2023 at South Carolina.
Wells officially accepted an invite to the 2024-25 East-West Shrine Bowl. Wells had one season of eligibility remaining if he wanted it. He played five college football seasons across James Madison, South Carolina and Ole Miss.
The 6-foot, 205-pound Wells was signed in the off-season as part of the Rebels’ Top 3 transfer class. Ole Miss hoped he’d solidify the position opposite star wideout Tre Harris and following the ineligibility of LSU transfer Deion Smith.
Juice Wells, however, played more to his 2023 form than 2022, when he was one of, if not the best, receivers in the SEC. Wells tallied 71 receptions, 965 yards and seven touchdowns receiving during South Carolina career.

“Juice would be the first to tell you he’s had some ups and downs this year,” fifth-year Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said. “Missed all spring and training camp. He’d be the first to tell you it’s been a really up-and-down year for him.”
Wells this season caught 27 passes for 521 yards and five touchdowns. Drops played into his inconsistencies. He let potential touchdowns slip through his hands in each of the last two weeks of the regular season, including at Florida — a crippling, 24-17 loss.
Against Duke, Juice Wells is hoping to cap his career in Oxford with a bang ahead of NFL scouts getting a look at him.
