Once a touted transfer portal addition for Ole Miss, tight end Michael Trigg is no longer with the team
What was a highly praised and touted addition out of the transfer portal in January of last year has now turned into a what-could-have-been scenario as tight end Michael Trigg is officially no longer with the Ole Miss football program.
The Ole Miss Spirit reported on Tuesday there were rumblings of Trigg’s departure from the team and got official confirmation from an Ole Miss source a few hours later. Trigg was not listed on the Ole Miss roster page as of 2:50 p.m. CT on Tuesday.
Transferring in from Southern California along with quarterback Jaxson Dart in the winter of 2022, Trigg was seen viewed as that missing component the Ole Miss offense was needing in a playmaker at the tight end position.
Instead Trigg never reached that potential with a career total of 221 receiving yards and four touchdown catches. This season Trigg had four catches for 65 yards and a touchdown.
After a strong start to his first season at Ole Miss last year, catching three touchdowns against Central Arkansas in week two, Trigg never took off from that. He injured himself in the second half against Vanderbilt causing him to miss six games.

Alabama WR to transfer
During the offseason Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin hit the portal for another tight end and found former Memphis standout Caden Prieskorn. After missing three games due to a toe injury that required surgery during fall camp, Preiksorn made his season debut against Alabama. Trigg did not play one snap against the Crimson Tide.
Trigg earned more playing time out of necessity due to Prieskorn’s injury and recorded his lone touchdown catch against Tulane.
Ole Miss still has six tight ends on the roster including Prieskorn, Kyirin Heath and Hudson Wolfe. Wolfe made his return from a lingering back injury this season but then got injured in the season opener against Mercer. Redshirt junior Salathiel Hemphill has also earned some playing time this season due to the injury situation within the position group.
