Ole Miss basketball has two players on each of its teams that are quite rare in type in this day and age of NIL and the transfer portal in college athletics.
For the men, Matthew Murrell, one of the Rebels’ representatives at SEC Tipoff ’24 in Birmingham this week, has spent his entire four-year career as a Rebel. On the women’s side is Madison Scott, herself an Ole Miss rep for the SEC’s annual tipoff event.
She, too, is headed into her fourth year.
“I am definitely a leader,” she said. “My four years playing have led me to here, and I’m ready to lead.”
Scott has the stripes to back her up.
Scott, a preseason All-SEC second-team selection, currently sits No. 10 in school history in career double-doubles (21). She was an all-conference and earned a spot on the SEC All-Defensive team as a junior.

Scott was the driving force in Ole Miss captivating the nation last season in the Rebels’ unforgettable run through the NCAA Tournament. They knocked off No. 1 seed Stanford on the Cardinal’s home court to advance to the program’s 11th all-time Sweet Sixteen.
Ole Miss was picked by league media to finish fourth this season in the SEC. The Rebels open the year against Queens November 6 at 11 a.m. CT on SEC Network+.
“We expect Madison to teach the others the Ole Miss way,” Ole Miss head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin said Thursday. “We’ve groomed her for this moment. For the last three years, she was a part of the leadership council. Maybe not a captain, but she sat in on all the meetings (and) had a chance to listen to the expectations. She’s lived it.
“Maddie knows the Ole Miss way, and it’s time for her to step into that role.”
