POLL POSITION: Did Ole Miss move into the Top 10 after Week 12 chaos?
For the last time this season Ole Miss took the weekend off as it prepares for the final two games of the regular season and then a potential run in the College Football Playoffs.
Getting into the CFP got a lot more possible after beating Georgia last weekend and the Rebels moving into the Top 10 in one poll and just outside of it in another. They were ranked No. 11 in last Tuesday’s latest CFP Top 25.
Ole Miss (8-2, 4-2 Southeastern Conference) was not able to improve its standing this weekend but it did get a little help from within the SEC and outside of it.
No. 12 Georgia’s 14-point win over No. 7 Tennessee makes the Rebels win over the Bulldogs last weekend even better. There was some help out of the Big 12 on Saturday, too, with un-ranked Kansas upsetting No. 6 BYU and handing the Cougars their first loss of the season.
What impact those results will have on Tuesday’s latest batch of CFP Rankings will be learned then, but Sunday’s latest Coaches Poll and Associated Press Poll shed a little light on it situation.

While not the rankings that carry the most weight the AP Top 25 has been in lock-step with the CFP the first two weeks, for the most part.
Ole Miss moved up two spots to No. 9 in the Coaches Poll. In the AP Poll it moved up one spot to No. 9. Georgia leaped up three spots and past the Rebels to No. 8.
The Volunteers fell seven spots to No. 11 in the coaches poll and four spots to No. 10 in the AP Poll in the wake of the loss to Georgia.
The road to the program’s first CFP berth, via an at-large bid, is clear for the Rebels. Win at Florida (5-5, 3-4), who surprised LSU in Gainesville, next Saturday and then beat Mississippi State (2-8, 0-6) in the Egg Bowl six days later and that should be enough to claim one of the 12 spots in the expanded field.
