Poll Position: Ole Miss baseball continues move up the rankings after another perfect weekend

Conference play begins for most of college baseball this week and Ole Miss concluded the bulk of its non-conference schedule with three more wins over a Big Ten team.

The Rebels swept Purdue over the weekend, completing a 8-1 record against the Power 5 conference through its first 16 non-conference games to start the 2023 season.

Ole Miss (14-2) also defeated then-No. 22 Southern Mississippi last Tuesday for its fourth straight win over the Golden Eagles and part of a 4-0 week.

With the strong close to the non-conference weekend portion of the schedule Ole Miss move up slightly once more in this week’s newest rankings released by D1Baseball and Baseball America on Monday.

Ole Miss solidified its Top 5 standing in D1Baseball’s rankings and crept closer to cracking Baseball America’s Top 5.

After staying at No. 4 the first four weeks of the season Ole Miss moved up a spot to No. 3 in D1Baseball’s poll. The Rebels are behind No. 1 LSU (15-1) and No. 2 Tennessee (14-3). Wake Forest (15-2) and Florida (15-3) round out the Top 5.

The Rebels are one of six Southeastern Conference teams inside the Top 10 of D1Baseball’s rankings. Nine SEC teams are ranked in total this week.

In Baseball America’s poll Ole Miss moved up two spots to No. 6. The Tigers, Gators, Louisville (14-1), Volunteers and Demon Deacons make up the Top 5.

There are six SEC teams inside Baseball America’s Top 10 and the Rebels are one of seven teams total included in its poll this week.

After a game at Jacksonville State on Tuesday (6 p.m. CT / ESPN+) Ole Miss will then head to Nashville to take on No. 6 Vanderbilt (12-5) to open SEC play on Thursday.
