Saturday in Columbia, South Carolina could not have gone better for Ole Miss both on the field and off it where results were out of its control but plenty ended in its favor.

A bounce back 27-3 win over South Carolina put the Rebels season back on track following last week’s loss to Kentucky. Despite the sky-is-falling feeling seven days ago the feeling was restored by getting the first Southeastern Conference win of the season.

The voters of the Coaches and Associated Press Polls took notice as Ole Miss returned to the Top 10 after falling just outside of it for one week.

In the Coaches Poll the Rebels (5-1, 1-1 SEC) moved up three spots to No. 8. In the AP Poll they jumped three spots to No. 9.

Part of the jump was the help of four Top 10-teams suffering upsets in what became a chaotic Week 6 slate.

The biggest upset took place in Nashville with No. 1 Alabama falling to an unranked, two-loss Vanderbilt. The Crimson Tide were riding high a week after knocking off Georgia last Saturday but it was short-lived and the Commodores brought Alabama back down to earth.

Other key losses happened to No. 4 Tennessee who were beaten by Arkansas, 19-14. No. 9 Missouri was routed by No. 25 Texas A&M in a 41-10 loss.

Outside of the SEC there was a Top upset in the Big Ten when Washington beat No. 10 Michigan, 27-17. The ACC nearly joined the chaos but California could not finish off its upset bid, falling to No. 8 Miami by a score of 39-38 in a second-half comeback by the Hurricanes.

Ole Miss has one more game before it can hit its first of two bye weeks in the final eight weeks of the regular season. A trip to Baton Rouge and No. 13 LSU awaits for a nighttime kickoff inside Tiger Stadium.
