Ole Miss got itself back on track with its 26-14 win over Oklahoma on Saturday and with four games remaining is still in control of putting itself back in the College Football Playoffs.

A week from Tuesday the first CFP Top 25 rankings will be released, which is the only poll that will matter moving forward in terms of where the Rebels will be in the postseason race.

For now, though, Sunday’s latest Associated Press and Coaches Polls still hold some guidance on where teams might shakeout and for Ole Miss (6-2, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) it is still a hole climb out of.

The Rebels stayed put in the Coaches Poll at No. 18 but shifted down a spot in the new AP Top 25 to No. 19.

The problem is a lot of shuffling is happening above them and the week off last weekend after losing to LSU in overtime hurts them for now. But the final four games at Arkansas, against No. 2 Georgia, at Florida and against Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl carry a lot of weight moving forward.

It is easy to sit and say well they are just seven spots out of the Top 12, but that is now how the CFP is going to fill out its expanded 12-team format. The Group of 5 gets one of those slots, going to the highest ranked G5 team in the poll.

So, winning out is the only path and that win over the Bulldogs could be enough — with some some help elsewhere in the SEC and country — to get them back to the CFP.
