The rebuild and rebound year continues for the Ole Miss baseball team and through the first three weekends everything is moving in the right direction.

This includes the Rebels movement up the the Top 25 rankings.

After a 4-0 week, including a 15-8 victory over a ranked Southern Mississippi last Tuesday, the latest polls are bullish on the resurgence of Ole Miss (10-1).

Last week the Rebels were only in the D1Baseball poll but this week they find themselves in the Baseball America poll, too, entering at No. 19. They jumped up seven spots to No. 17 in the Monday’s latest D1Baseball poll.

Over the weekend Ole Miss earned its second straight sweep, beating Wright State by a combined 24-7 over the three-game series. The Rebels have won night straight since the loss to Texas in Arlington on February 15.

“That’s a hard question to answer but probably what the best (answer) is we can do a lot of different things well,” Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco said when asked what he’s learned about this year’s team.

“We can defend, we can pitch it, we can hit, we can run, we can steal bases, we can hit some homers and so we’re pretty good. But we also realize there’s nights where we’re deficient in some of those areas and (we need) to be more consistent to be the team that we want. But the good news is you don’t look after 11 games and go, ‘Wow, what do we need to do to shake up the offense or what do we need to do on the mound?'”

The Rebels are one of 12 Southeastern Conference teams in this week’s D1Baseball poll. Former No. 1 Texas A&M dropped 13 spots to No. 14 after going 1-3 last week. LSU moved up a spot to claim the top ranking ahead of Tennessee (No. 2) and Arkansas (No. 3).

This week Ole Miss is scheduled for a pair of midweek games against Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday and Murray State on Wednesday before hosting Jacksonville State for the final non-conference weekend series ahead of hosting the Razorbacks next weekend to open SEC play.
