The Southeastern Conference portion of the 2024-25 college basketball season is here after a pair of games on the Ole Miss women’s side and Saturday’s opening game for the men.

Ole Miss knocked off Georgia, 63-51, with the aid of a surging second-half effort to get its 18-game schedule off on the right foot. Now the Rebels (12-2, 1-0 SEC) head to Arkansas (11-3, 0-1) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT for its first SEC road game of year before returning home this Saturday to host LSU (11-3, 0-1) at 5 p.m. CT.

A bounce-back win for the Rebels after falling at Memphis on December 28 to close out the non-conference schedule put the season back on track, washing the taste out from its second loss on the year.

The victory also moved Ole Miss up in this week’s Associated Press Top 25, going up one spot to No. 23. This week’s pair of games will be the last against un-ranked opponents until January 25. The Razorbacks were No. 23 in last week’s poll but the loss to No. 1 Tennessee on Saturday knocked them out.

After the LSU game this weekend the Rebels will play three-straight games against ranked opponents, including two on the road at No. 5 Alabama (12-2, 1-0) on January 14 and at No. 14 Mississippi State (13-1, 1-0) on January 18. A home game against No. 10 Texas A&M (12-2, 1-0) on January 22 caps the three-game gauntlet.

The Ole Miss women’s team stumbled on the road at Texas A&M

After holding a double-digit lead for most of the game the Rebels fell to the Aggies, 60-58, in a tough road loss that is really inexplicable to a team that was 7-6 heading into the game.

Ole Miss suffered its fourth loss of the season and now 1-1 in the SEC play. Due to that the Rebels (10-4) fell out of the AP Top 25 after holding on to that No. 25 spot for the last couple weeks. They did receive 14 votes behind Florida State and Vanderbilt’s 18 votes received each.

The Rebels return home on Thursday to host the Commodores (14-2, 1-1) at 6:30 p.m. CT before hosting No. 18 Alabama (15-1, 2-0) on Sunday.
