A little over a month ago Ole Miss was on the doorstep of becoming a top 10 football team but that fell short with the loss at Alabama.

The Rebels have regrouped and responded with four straight Southeastern Conference victories, including Saturday’s 33-7 win over Vanderbilt. A season that looked potentially done before October has now turned into a season with everything still to play for as the calendar turns to November.

With four SEC wins against LSU, Arkansas, Auburn and Vanderbilt, Ole Miss (7-1, 4-1 SEC) has inched its way back up the rankings after dropping back down to No. 20 following the loss to the Crimson Tide.

Sunday’s latest Top 25 rankings from the Associated Press and Coaches Polls have rewarded the Rebels as a near consensus Top 10 team heading into the final month of the regular season.

Ole Miss moved up a spot to No. 10 in the coaches poll and one spot in the AP Poll to No. 11. A jump up in the polls is mostly due to the Rebels winning ways the last five weeks but also due to some upsets ahead of them.

Oklahoma fell out of the Top 10 in the Coaches Poll but dropped four spots to stay in the Top 10 of the AP Poll coming off its upset loss at the hands of Kansas on Saturday. Ole Miss also got some help by way of Arizona beating Oregon State as the Beavers were sitting just outside the Top 10 along with the Rebels in last week’s polls.

These rankings are fun to watch the rest of the regular season but starting Tuesday the all-important poll makes its 2023 debut. ESPN will release the first College Football Playoff Top 25 and Ole Miss should be within or right at the No. 10 spot.
