POLL POSITION: Ole Miss now a consensus Top 5 team after Week 2 shuffling
Ole Miss is slowly positioning itself to be in a place the program has not been in 15 years — a Top 5 team heading into October.
A second resounding win in as many weeks to start the season, Saturday’s being a 52-3 domination of Middle Tennessee, the Rebels (2-0) are feeling good heading towards the start of Fall.
Not since 2014 has Ole Miss been ranked in the Top 5, sitting at No. 4 in the inaugural College Football Playoffs Top 25. Prior to that it was in 2009 when the Rebels traveled to South Carolina as the No. 4 team in the country.
Last week Ole Miss moved into the Top 5 of the Coaches Poll and sat just outside of it in the Associated Press’ Top 25 at No. 6. This week that changes as the Rebels are officially a consensus Top 5 team for the first time this season. They are No. 5 in each respective poll.

The bump in the AP poll comes after Notre Dame lost to Northern Illinois and dropped significantly in each poll. The Irish fell 12 spots in the Coaches Poll and X spots in the AP Poll.
For Ole Miss it is the opportunity to prove they are worthy of the ranking after two wins over inferior competition, for the most part. Next weekend the Rebels travel for its first road game of the season, taking on Wake Forest (1-1), which is coming off a late loss to Virginia.
The top four stayed the same as Georgia, Ohio State, Texas and Alabama all won. The Longhorns with the most impressive victory this week, beating then No. 10-ranked Michigan in Ann Arbor.
