Saturday night in Athens was not a pleasant experience for Ole Miss after the first quarter, but a season-ender it was not.

The Rebels were not able to shock the world, as many felt it would be, and defeat the undefeated Bulldogs yet there is plenty still on the table to play for.

A second 10-win regular season in the last three years is still very much in play as is a potential New Year’s Six bowl bid, depending how things shake out the next three weeks.

Ole Miss (8-2, 5-2 Southeastern Conference) also did not take too far of a tumble down Sunday’s latest batch of Top 25 rankings from the Associated Press and Coaches Polls. Tuesday’s third round of College Football Playoff Rankings will be interesting to see if they follow a similar pattern.

In the AP Poll the Rebels dropped three spots to No. 13 and in the Coaches Poll they dropped four spots to No. 14. Georgia remained atop each poll despite being ranked No. 2 in the current CFP rankings.

The home finale against ULM (2-8) this Saturday is followed by a quick turnaround with the annual Egg Bowl showdown at Mississippi State (4-6, 1-6) on Thanksgiving night.
