This past week was a bounce-back for Ole Miss baseball. After going 1-3 the week prior it responded with four straight wins over Southeastern Conference opponents, including taking the series over then-ranked No. 9 Vanderbilt.

Despite two wins over the Commodores and a win over Mississippi State in the annual Governor’s Cup game in Pearl it was not enough for D1Baseball to move Ole Miss back up and inside the Top 20.

Instead, D1 kept the Rebels (31-13, 12-9 SEC) at No. 23 in the outlets newest rankings released on Monday.

Nobody is claiming that they should shoot back up inside the Top 10 but some movement was to be expected being a victory away from a five-game winning streak and all against SEC opponents. Yet, Ole Miss stayed steady.

Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball replied to someone who asked him on X why no movement up for the Rebels.

“Strong week. There’s an argument to be made to be ahead of the Troy/USM combo, but otherwise I think the Rebels are in a good spot (for now),” Rogers replied. “A series win over OU would shift my thinking on them a bit. B2B series losses + series loss to second worst team in the league hurt.”

The Rebels were three outs away from series wins over Arkansas and Tennessee, both in the Top 10 at the time the weekend games were played, respectfully. They have four wins over Top 10 opponents in SEC play.

Baseball America, on the other hand, moved Ole Miss up considerably in its latest rankings on Monday. The Rebels moved up nine spots to No. 13 this week.

A midweek game against Austin Peay (34-10) on Tuesday is first for Ole Miss before traveling to Norman for the 2022 College Worlds Series Final rematch against No. 21 Oklahoma (30-13, 11-10) this weekend.
