Through 10 games Ole Miss is 8-2 for a second straight season but how it got there leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

Having a chance to hand Alabama its third loss of the season, and a rare second straight regular season loss, went by the wayside in a 30-24 defeat on Saturday. The loss also snapped a 14-game home winning streak dating back to 2020.

A win would have provided the opportunity to move firmly into the Top 10 rankings of both the Associated Press and the USA Today AFCA Coaches Poll. A slide occurred instead.

With two games remaining in the regular season Ole Miss did not drop too far and can still put together a second straight 10-win regular season — only done one other time, last year.

Ole Miss remained a consensus Top 15 team in the latest polls released on Sunday.

The Rebels fell five spots to No. 14 in the coaches poll while falling three spots to No. 14 in the AP Poll.

In the Coaches Poll the top five remained the same with Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, TCU and Tennessee rounding it out. The Associated Press poll’ Top 5 was identical with the Bulldogs, Buckeyes, Wolverines, Horned Frogs and Volunteers.

Ole Miss (8-2, 4-2 Southeastern Conference) heads to Arkansas (5-5, 2-4) next Saturday before hosting Mississippi State (6-4, 3-4) four days later on Thanksgiving in the Egg Bowl.
