Ole Miss concluded its regular season on Thursday with a Egg Bowl win over Mississippi State and has been resting the rest of the holiday weekend while the rest of college football still had games to be played.

A lot of intrigue built up on Saturday when Kentucky beat Louisville in the early slate of games, giving Ole Miss some hope of potentially moving into a New Year’s Six slot. But then chalk went the rest of the day as Alabama outlasted Auburn with late-game heroics in the Iron Bowl and Florida State out-muscled Florida in the second half to keep its perfect season and College Football Playoff hopes alive.

With all of that it did not leave much wiggle room for Ole Miss to make a major jump in the final polls of the regular season, but the Rebels did move up a spot in each of the Associated Press and Coaches Polls to No. 11.

The Louisville loss dropped them to just inside the Top 15, moving the Rebels and other teams up a notch. Sunday’s polls could be a potential harbinger of things to come on Tuesday in the newest CFP Top 25 rankings are released.

For now Ole Miss still looks locked into the Citrus Bowl but if the Cardinals can beat Florida State, or the Seminoles are left out of the CFP Top 4 on Tuesday or next Sunday’s selection day then it could bode well for the Rebels NY6 chances.
