Ready for Battle: The Egg is on the line again, and Brian Hadad is a defeated man
In this edition of The Flagship, powered by BNA Bank and part of the Talk of Champions podcast network, Ben Garrett (OMSpirit.com) is joined by Brian Hadad of SuperTalk Mississippi to preview the annual ‘Battle of the Golden Egg,’ which is set for Thanksgiving night between bitter in-state rivals Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
Ben and Brian have been previewing Egg Bowls for a decade. Ben’s never heard Brian more defeated.
“Not in a pleasant way for Mississippi State,” Hadad said, when asked how he sees the game playing out. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.
“This is a really good Ole Miss football team. They’re better than they were a year ago. Jaxson Dart has been really good this year. I wouldn’t say has carried this team, but definitely has led this team. I was amazed Ole Miss didn’t make him their Conerly nominee.
“Let me ask you this: Think back to 2017. State, I think, was 8-3 coming in and they’d played really well all year. The game was in Starkville and State was a 17-point favorite. Ole Miss had not played well that season. If we were having this discussion then, ‘What can Ole Miss do to win?’ prior to the game, you would’ve said it was going to be tough.
“For State, they’ve been so inconsistent this year offensively. They’ve been so inconsistent this year defensively. I feel like they’re playing better defense over the last four or five weeks, but they still gave up some big plays to USM this past weekend.”

Ole Miss is 9-2 (5-2 SEC) on the season following a 35-3 win over ULM on Saturday.
Mississippi State took down ULM over the weekend to improve to 5-6 (1-6).
The Rebels are going for the second-ever 10-win regular season in Starkville. Should they win both the Egg Bowl and a bowl game, they’d secure the first 11-win season in program history.
“Offensively, having (quarterback Will) Rogers back helps, but Rogers wasn’t particularly good (against USM),” Hadad continued. “But they can at least find points when he’s in the game. When he’s not playing, they have no chance.
“You saw with Mike Wright and Chris Parson they scored 26 points in four games. Not 26 points a game, 26 points in four games. I thought I was never going to have to see the Sylvester Croom thing again.”
