Rebel Rewind: Ole Miss walked-off in-state rival Mississippi State to snap its eight-game skid
Ole Miss baseball snapped an eight-game losing streak with an extra-inning, walk-off win over in-state rival Mississippi State Saturday night.
The Rebels (19-16, 4-10 SEC) would claim their first series win over the Bulldogs in the last 10 series played between the teams if they come out on top in the deciding game Sunday afternoon. Mississippi State is now 22-13 (7-7) on the season.
First pitch Sunday is 1:30 p.m. CT.
“It’s huge,” senior first baseman/designated hitter Jackson Ross said. “As an outsider, you don’t realize how intense it gets. Being here in front of all these fans, holy cow. The energy’s different. Everyone feels it in there. (Ole Miss) Coach (Mike) Bianco’s fired up.
“It was awesome. The crowd was great and the energy was awesome all night. Good team win.”

Mississippi State had taken a 9-8 lead in the top of the 12th. Ole Miss faced as much as a four-run deficit despite racing out to a 3-0 lead after three innings.

Ross, Ethan Lege and Campbell Smithwick each had three hits apiece for the Rebels. Ole Miss had 14 as a team. The Rebels used six pitchers. Brayden Jones (1-0) got the win.
“We’ve been waiting on it for a while now,” Ross said. “It’s so big. Hopefully it gets some momentum going. We were on a skid there. We had to put a stop to it eventually, and no better team to do it against than those guys.”
