All-time Ole Miss baseball greats Jacob Gonzalez and Tim Elko have been reunited as teammates once more.

Both former Rebels are now members of the Chicago White Sox organization. Gonzalez, on Monday, was promoted to AA Birmingham. He was hitting .273 at Winston-Salem, including three home runs and 15 RBI. He had a .364 OBP and seven doubles. Gonzalez opened with a 161 wRC+ through the Dash’s first 10 games.

Gonzalez was a first-round MLB Draft selection (No. 15 overall) of the Sox last summer. Each was an integral contributor to the Rebels’ first-ever national championship in the summer of 2022. Ole Miss won 10 of 11 NCAA Tournament games as the last team named to the field.

Gonzalez, a left-handed-hitting shortstop, had a .319 average and .988 OPS over three seasons in Oxford.

He clubbed 40 home runs and finished with 158 RBI. He walked (123) more than he struck out (94).

Gonzalez was at his best as an Ole Miss sophomore. He mostly hit second or third and tallied a career-high 18 home runs. He led the Rebels in runs (73), walks (50) and triples (3). Gonzalez was 3 for 4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in the second of a two-game sweep of Oklahoma in the College World Series finals.

It was Elko who famously said, ‘Don’t let the Rebs get hot,’ which became their postseason rallying cry. He was a three-time Ole Miss captain. He’s hitting .264 with three homers, eight doubles and 11 RBI for the Barons.
