SEC HANDS ULTIMATE HONOR TO PAIR OF OLE MISS TRACK AND FIELD STARS
A pair of Ole Miss track and field stars — one from the men’s side, and another from the women’s — were honored as SEC Athlete of the Year on Wednesday.
Selected as SEC Men’s Field Athlete of the Year was Tarik Robinson O’Hagan, a Rebel sophomore. Akaoma Odeluga is the first SEC Women’s Freshman Field Athlete of the Year in Ole Miss history.
Robinson-O’Hagan is the first Rebel since Brittney Reese in 2008 to sweep the award in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. He becomes just the second Rebel in a decade to take the Commissioner’s Trophy in outdoors competition.
Not since Robinson-O’Hagan this season had an SEC athlete swept indoor shot put/weight and outdoor shot put/hammer. He’s one of three in SEC history to sweep the men’s shot/hammer in a single year.
Odeluga is coming off an SEC bronze win in the shot put. She’s the under-20 world leader in the category and second only to fellow Rebel Raven Sanders atop the all-time U.S. standings.

OLE MISS TRACK AND FIELD’S LONG A FINALIST FOR BOWERMAN
The field has again winnowed for The Bowerman, college track and field’s version of the Heisman Trophy.
Ole Miss’ McKenzie Long remains in contention.
Long is fresh off a clinical performance at the NCAA East Regional, where she secured national tickets as the top qualifier in the 100 and 200-meter events. She ran the second leg of the 4×100-meter relay. Ole Miss finished with the second-best qualifying score (42.72).
Long is No. 11 all-time in the 100. She’s currently seventh in the world and No. 4 in the U.S. Her SEC-winning time of 22.03 (+0.6) in the 200 is still best on the planet. Actually, Long, a one-time transfer from NC State, owns the world’s first and fourth-best times.
Long just this season emerged as the only runner worldwide with wind-legal times of sub-11.00 and sub-22.10. Long’s one of three runners in NCAA history with multiple wind-legal 22.10s.
An announcement regarding Bowerman semifinalists will be released on June 18, followed by finalists June 24 and a winner at the USTFCCCA Coaches Convention in December.
