Rebel Roundabout: Ole Miss women now know SEC road for fourth straight NCAA Tournament bid
Ole Miss junior right-handed pitcher Mason Nichols was named to the SEC’s 2024 Baseball Community Service Team on Wednesday.
The conference has 21 such teams for each of its league-sponsored sports. Athletes are selected based on their community service efforts in giving back to their communities.
Nichols, in particular, has contributed to Reading with the Rebels. The initiative saw Nichols visit local elementary schools to read and engage with the children in their classrooms.
He’s also lent a hand to Adopt-a-Basket. Nichols helped collect over 1,300 items for the creation of 100 Thanksgiving holiday food baskets for those in need in and around Oxford.
Feed the Sip is a food-sustainability project within the Stronger Together MS Initiative. Nichols volunteered in the collection and donation of non-perishable food items benefitting elementary students within in Tunica and Quitman counties. He also took part in ‘A Night to Shine,’ a community-wide prom night event for members with disabilities and put on by The Tim Tebow Foundation. Nichols and Hygiene Hijack collected hotel toiletry items and donated them to on-campus Violence Intervention and Prevention Services.
Even more, Nichols, during Christmas, led Ole Miss baseball in the annual CASA of North Mississippi’s Adopt-a-Child Christmas Program. The program provides foster children with Christmas gifts.
Nichols and Ole Miss baseball wrap the regular season with a three-game road trip to LSU this weekend. The Rebels dropped their final midweek game Tuesday at No. 25 Southern Miss.
