The Flagship: Fast start the key for No. 9 Ole Miss at top-ranked Georgia
In this edition of The Flagship, part of the Spirit’s Talk of Champions podcast network, Ben Garrett (OMSpirit.com/On3) is joined by Ben Mintz (Barstool) to put the finishing touches on the preview week for No. 9 Ole Miss’ trip to top-ranked Georgia on Saturday.
The Rebels are 8-1 (5-1 SEC) for just the third time in 60 years, while the Bulldogs (9-0, 6-0) are the two-time, defending national champion and haven’t lost a home game in nearly 1,500 days.
But Mintz believes Georgia is gettable for the surging Rebels, but they have to start quick. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN.
“Here’s how Ole Miss wins this game,” Mintz began. “Georgia has been a slow-starting team all year. South Carolina game, Missouri was a little bit like that, Florida was up 7-0 and (Georgia) bulldozed them. The Auburn game they were losing.
“But the thing Georgia’s done is they go into halftime, and Alabama’s been the same way at home, they make adjustments at half and they’re like a war machine in these second halves.”

The Rebels are coming off a 38-35 win over Texas A&M.
They rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit to win for the third time this season. They also scored first in the contest. They’re now 26-5 under Kiffin, who’s in his fourth Rebel season, when doing so.
“Ole Miss has been a fast-starter under Lane Kiffin,” Mintz continued. “Gets up 7-0, 14-0 every week. Ole Miss has got to come out and get up 14-0 here (and) just jump on them.”
“Ole Miss has done a great job scoring on the first drive all year. Take the kickoff, go freaking score and try to jump them early and take the crowd out of it. Take momentum, ‘cause you know Georgia’s going to come at some point.”
