SEC Media Days came and went for Ole Miss football days ago.

The Rebels have been on to their expectations-filled 2024-25 season, including the program’s ‘Production Day’ on Thursday.

There’s plenty of reason for optimism. Ole Miss won a program-record 11 games last season and has been ranked inside the Top 10 in each of the last three. The College Football Playoff is now, officially, a 12-team field.

Ole Miss has the sixth-best odds to win the title. Quarterback Jaxson Dart is a Heisman Trophy candidate. Point being, the possibilities are (seemingly) endless.

Zach Berry (OMSpirit.com) and David Brandt (Associated Press) officially start the countdown clock, and consider the road ahead, in this (July 17, 2024) all-new edition of ‘The Flagship,’ powered by College Corner.

“I don’t see any major weaknesses,” Brandt said. “The offensive line, you wonder how that gels together, but they’re experienced on defense. They’ve got pretty good special teams. Running back, quarterback, receiver — there’s really nothing that should hold them back.

“What I like is they’ve developed some depth, too, (similar to) the Robert Nkemdiche, Tony Conner days. Their top six or seven could line up with just about anybody in the country. But when you got down to the 20th, 25th best player, that’s when you really saw the depth issues.

“Now, I think, the two-deep for Ole Miss is solid. You’ve got to have a little bit of good injury luck, but this is a team that can maybe absorb an injury or two and not go completely off the rails.”
