A lot has been made of Ole Miss’ willingness to not only trust transfers, but allow them to dictate team culture.

The Rebels’ road trip to South Carolina on Saturday will be a major test of that resolve and locker-room cohesion. They need it now more than ever.

Zach Berry explains in an all-new edition of ‘The Flagship,’ powered by College Corner and the Ole Miss Spirit (OMSpirit.com).

“Here on ‘The Flagship’ we talk a lot of recruiting, for the most part,” Berry began. “A lot has been made of the transfer portal and how Lane Kiffin’s been able to fill holes and find impact players. He’s done a nice job. Ole Miss has really leaned on NIL and the Grove Collective and the Grove Collective and fans have come through. Ole Miss has been able to put together what I still think is a championship roster.

“You go out and win on Saturday in Columbia, South Carolina, and you’re back on track. Take care of business in Baton Rouge (LSU) and get to the bye and you can exhale a little bit and get ready for the homestretch.”

Ole Miss (4-1, 0-1 SEC) and South Carolina (3-1, 1-1) kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.

“The theme for me this week is Ole Miss’ culture,” Berry continued. “They talk a lot about the culture with recruiting, with the portal and with NIL. Got a lot of impact dudes that are transfers. There are some one-year rentals, but the majority of this roster there’s a lot of experience in Oxford and in that locker room.

“I hear recruits talk about it — the culture and how you can sense the family bond and cohesiveness despite the transfers. That’s a testament to the staff and the players. This week is when that’s going to truly be tested. If you’re Ole Miss, you need that culture to come up big this week.”
