The Flagship: Ole Miss football is all business for 2024-25
Ole Miss football practiced for the first time this preseason on Wednesday.
David Eckert, who covers the Rebels for the Clarion-Ledger, was on-hand and joins this edition (August 1, 2024) of ‘The Flagship’ with Zach Berry (OMSpirit.com) to discuss.
Ole Miss has another session late-afternoon Thursday.
“A lot of what I took away from (Wednesday) was who was there and participating,” Eckert said. ‘The Flagship’ is powered by College Corner. “What we got to see was kind of limited. Like, you’re not learning who the starting running back is based off of 40 minutes or whatever it was we got.
“But Juice Wells looked good. He wasn’t even in a non-contact jersey; it looked like he was doing everything. That’s encouraging if you’re an Ole Miss fan. Jaxson Dart’s really excited about him, from my conversation with him afterwards. Princely Umanmielen was out there doing some stuff and taking some reps. He was in a non-contact jersey.”

Wells and Umanmielen transferred in from South Carolina and Florida, respectively, in the off-season.
Wells was the No. 1 wide receiver. Umanmielen’s one of two Top 10 transfers brought in by the Rebels. The other was Walter Nolen, a defensive tackle from Texas A&M.
Ole Miss had the nation’s No. 3 portal class.
“As far as depth-chart stuff, you could extrapolate some stuff, but I didn’t learn a whole lot,” Eckert continued. The Rebels won a program-record 11 games last season and are vying for their first national title since the 60s in 2024-25.
“But good to see Juice Wells and Princely out there doing some stuff.”
