Tim Elko was a key part of the Ole Miss baseball team getting hot and making the summer surge to the program’s first national title last year. He is continuing that surge in the minors.

A month into his professional career Elko is already racking up accolades. He was named the Carolina League Player of the Month for a scorching April at the plate.

Playing for the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers, the Singla-A affiliate for the Chicago White Sox, Elko led the league in batting average (.351), hits (27), total bases (48), home runs (six), RBI (25) and slugging percentage (.623).

Elko had two games of at least four hits in the month of April. He had a five-hit game against the Delmarva Shorebirds on April 14 and a four-hit game against the Charleston RiverDogs on April 20.

The game against the RiverDogs also included Elko’s first multi-home run game of his career with two long balls for three runs batted in and 10 total bags. He recorded a career-best five RBIs against the Shorebirds.

Elko currently leads the Cannon Ballers in several stats at the plate and leads the Carolina League a couple.

The rookie leads Kannapolis in home runs with seven, which also ties the Carolina Lead best along with Delmarva catcher Creed Willems. Elko also leads the team and league in hits (33) and RBIs (28).

While not a league best Elko’s .324 batting average (33-for-102) leads the Cannon Ballers through 25 games played this season.

Elko is coming off a final season at Ole Miss where he hit .300 with 75 RBIs and a record 24 home runs en route to a national championship.

As for the Cannon Ballers they are currently in third place of the Carolina League South division at 13-12 and three games back of division leader Columbia Fireflies (17-10).
