Tre Harris injury update: Ole Miss star WR questionable for Egg Bowl
On Wednesday, the latest status of Ole Miss wide receiver Tre Harris was revealed in the SEC availability report. On the injury report, Harris is listed as questionable after re-injuring his groin in the loss to Florida.
On Monday, head coach Lane Kiffin addressed the status of the star wideout, saying things were still being worked through. There’s not much optimism Harris plays in the Egg Bowl, sources told OMSpirit’s Ben Garrett, but the door’s not completely shut, according to the injury report.
“I think he’s still figuring out, talking to, getting some different opinions on it. So I don’t know much more than that right now. I don’t know that (about his mental state),” Kiffin told reporters. “I don’t know whether they take that in. I don’t know that answer. I know a lot of people do it. We were focused on winning this game and winning the Egg Bowl. Whatever gets us to 20 wins the last two seasons. So, there’s a lot at stake.”
Harris left early in the third quarter of what turned out to be a 24-17 loss in Gainesville, and never returned. He eventually showed back up on the Ole Miss sideline in street clothes. Harris was making his return to the field after a month sidelined with the injury. His one and only catch went for 43 yards and a touchdown — one of two thrown by third-year starting quarterback Jaxson Dart.
“Just a freak situation,” fifth-year Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said afterwards. “He got hit right on the same injury. Exactly, right where it was, and then dropped the ball because of it.”
Tre Harris among nation’s top WRs
Kiffin reminded reporters on Monday that he’s not gone through an entire coaching stop to graduate a class from freshman to seniors and he’s excited to send out a highly-decorated group on Friday in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Harris is among the elite players for the Rebels.

“I’ve never been in a place five years, I’ve never been in a place to have a senior day,” Kiffin said. “And I was just wanting to make sure that I recognize my appreciation, especially nowadays where so few players stay, to have these guys in an entire time and to have a senior night coming up, you know, where they came here with us in the beginning, and now we’ve been here the whole time with them. It’s really neat and special.
“And these guys, when I just said that, thinking of the 20 wins the last two seasons, you know, you know, these guys, probably historians here would say probably had the best run in the history of the school for, you know, the last four or five years. So that’s pretty special what they’ve been able to accomplish.”
Harris went over the 1,000-yard mark in the loss to the Gators. He entered the game with 987 receiving yards — a figure that still led the SEC despite his absence since Week 7. He now has seven touchdowns.
Harris added to his nation-leading receptions total (12) of 30 or more yards. He’s one of college football’s very best against single coverage, too. Harris came into action with 497 single-coverage yards, the second-most of all Power 4 wide receivers. He was nipping at the heels of Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan (508).
