All-American Trey Amos loved ‘every second and minute’ of his one season as an Ole Miss Rebel
Ole Miss has emerged as a premier destination for transfers in the portal era of college football.
Look no further than cornerback Trey Amos.
Amos transferred to Ole Miss from Alabama last off-season. He went from the No. 3/nickel corner with the Crimson Tide to an All-American in his only Rebel season. He’s shot up NFL Draft boards, too.
Amos is a projected first-round selection by Pro Football Focus.
“I feel like it was a great decision,” Amos said on Wednesday. “Coming in, it was a smooth transition. I loved every second and minute of being here. I feel like that’s what made me have a great season, being comfortable.
“Getting to know new faces, teammates, coaches. I had a great season having fun with the team.”
Amos has one last game remaining — the Gator Bowl on January 2, 2025. The Rebels (9-3, 5-3 SEC) are nearly a week into practices. They’ll face off against Duke (9-3, 5-3 ACC) at 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.
Amos was one of the first draft-eligible players to announce he was playing in the game rather than opting-out. Pretty much every other meaningful contributor outside of linebacker Chris ‘Pooh’ Paul has made a similar pledge.
One-year transfer EDGE Princely Umanmielen made his announcement this week. There wasn’t even a question with third-year star quarterback Jaxson Dart.
“We still have a lot to prepare for in this bowl game,” Amos said. “Everybody is excited to play against Duke. We’re getting prepared at the end of the day, and we’re just ready.”
The Blue Devils are down two quarterbacks, including starter Maalik Murphy.
Both got into the portal earlier this month. Murphy threw for a school-record 26 touchdowns this season. He completed 60.3 percent of his passes for 2,933 yards.

Duke’s nine-win regular season was its first since 2014.
“After the quarterback situation, we did look over some film on the third string to see a little bit of the offensive scheme that they run,” Amos said. “But we’re going to look at more film and look into that.”
Amos has 47 total tackles on the season, including three tackles for loss and three interceptions. He was named an All-American by three separate services.
“I wasn’t really looking for the accolades,” Amos said. “It just comes with the hard work from January until now. It goes to show that hard work pays off. I’ll continue doing that.
“My younger self, I was looking forward to (being an All-American). Now I appreciate that, but there’s still stuff left on the table. Still want to keep on improving for this last game. Still, getting the recognition on being an All-American, I’m still grateful for that, too.”
