Ole Miss and Mississippi State on Thursday combined for the fewest points in an Egg Bowl since 1996.

Fortunately, the No. 12-ranked Rebels were responsible for most of them.

Ole Miss notched its ninth-ever 10-win season with a 17-7 win in Starkville Thanksgiving night. The Rebels improved to 10-2 overall and 6-2 in SEC games. In the process, fourth-year head coach Lane Kiffin became just the second Ole Miss coach to lead the Rebels to multiple 10-win regular seasons. The other is the legendary Johnny Vaught, who did so four times.

Star second-year Rebel running back Quinshon Judkins was one of the few standouts in a game that was otherwise an offensive struggle, including the first touchdown-less Egg Bowl first half by either team since 1990.

Judkins went for 119 yards to surpass the 1,000-yard mark for the second time in as many seasons. His is the 10th such season in school history, and he’s only the third Rebel in program history with multiple 1,000-yard seasons.

Judkins is also just the ninth rusher in SEC history to repeat 1,000-yard campaigns.

He’s the first since Kentucky’s Benny Snell in 2017.

Judkins became the eighth rusher in the history of the FBS (and the second in the SEC) with both 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns in each of his first two seasons.

Ole Miss, defensively, held Mississippi State to the fewest total yards (303) in the annual rivalry showdown since 2019. Transfer safety Daijahn Anthony had a career-high 15 tackles. The last Rebel with a 15-tackle effort was Lakia Henry in 2019.

Fellow transfer, but linebacker, Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste set a new career-high in tackles (10), too. Cornerback Deantre Prince had his first career tackle for loss. Kicker Caden Costa made his lone field goal attempt of the season.

Ole Miss will now play in its fourth straight bowl game, the longest streak since the Rebels went to 15 straight from 1957 to 1971.
