Washington State DB transfer Kapena Gushiken signs with Ole Miss

Washington State transfer defensive back Kapena Gushiken has signed with Ole Miss, On3’s Pete Nakos reported on Tuesday. He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining.
In 2024, he made 52 tackles (third on the team), six pass breakups, 3.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions and recovered one fumble. Pro Football Focus graded him at 70.7 in coverage snaps this season. He also received a 68.8 defensive grade.
Over the past two seasons, Gushiken has amassed 88 total tackles, 11 pass breakups, three interceptions and one forced fumble for the Cougars. He’ll be hoping to shore up a secondary that’s looking to step up in 2025 for the Rebels.
Kapena Gushiken played high school football at Mission Viejo (PUKALANI, HI), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 195 overall recruit in his class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

As for his spot in the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings, Gushiken came in at No. 38 among cornerbacks, and No. 345 overall.
Kapena Gushiken visited Oxford, Miss., to kick off the new year and received an offer from the staff before his departure. Now, he’s a key piece to the future of the 2025 secondary.
