Ole Miss' Calvin Harris was named Co-SEC Player of the Week on Monday

Ole Miss baseball still has a path to an SEC Tournament berth, but the Rebels certainly didn’t do themselves any favors in dropping two of three at Missouri over the weekend.

The Rebels (25-23, 6-18 SEC) are one game back of the Tigers (27-20, 7-17) in the hunt for Hoover. They’re tied with in-state rival Mississippi State 24-23 (6-18) for last in the league.

The Rebels and Bulldogs are the last two college baseball national champions.

Twelve of 14 teams make it to the conference tournament. The Rebels hold no tiebreakers. Ole Miss has two series left and needs five more wins to hit 30 overall. The last time the Rebels fell short was 1998.

Fortunately, veteran catcher Calvin Harris has given them something to hang their hats on.

Harris on Monday was named the Co-SEC Player of the Week. Harris in the series finale at Missouri on Saturday hit four home runs and drove in 10 runs. He also scored four times and finished with 16 total bases in a 20-14 Ole Miss win.

Harris, a junior, became the first player in SEC history to hit four home runs in a conference game. He’s just the third SEC player ever to pull off the feat, and he’s one of only four players in league history with at least 16 total bases in a single game.

Harris shared all-conference weekly honors with Missouri’s Luke Mann. Mann hit five home runs over four games last week. Harris and Mann, in all, combined for 10 home runs, 25 RBI, 16 runs scored and 52 total bases.

Ole Miss next hosts Auburn for three (May 11-13) before a midweek showdown against Austin Peay. The Rebels will finish the regular season with a three-game series at Alabama. Mississippi State was swept by Arkansas over the weekend and closes out with No. 2 LSU (37-10, 16-7) and Texas A&M (28-20, 11-13).

Missouri has Georgia (27-21, 10-14) and at Auburn (27-19-1, 11-13).

Let’s take a look back at Harris’ historic performance, with highlights provided by Ole Miss Athletics.
