Getting the obvious out of the way and saying up front: Yes, No. 12 Ole Miss is currently not in any College Football Playoff projections.

After suffering its first loss of the season, a surprising one to Kentucky, it would be surprising to not see a fall out of the projected 12-team CFP format. But there is still time for a rebound starting this Saturday at South Carolina.

For now, though, what is the current postseason outlook for the Rebels (4-1, 0-1 Southeastern Conference) after suffering their first setback of season? The answer is one that is going to be hard for fans to swallow with all the investment put into this year’s team.

But remember, it is only September 30 and there are seven more games of the regular season to go.

Probably the hardest tumble for for Ole Miss is to see outlets that did have them in the CFP a week ago now having them playing in the Las Vegas Bowl. Brett McMurphy of Action Network and Athlon each project the Rebels to be wrapping up the season in Sin City on December 27, for now. Both have Arizona as the opposing team and McMurphy handicapped the matchup, making Ole Miss the 10-point favorite.

Jerry Palm of CBS Sports has never had the Rebels in the CFP from the start, placing them in the Citrus Bowl projection, but after Saturday he has them heading to Nashville for the Music City Bowl against Nebraska.

ESPN’s Mark Schlabach and Kyle Bonagura along with College Football News has Ole Miss heading to Florida, Tampa specifically. All three project the ReliaQuest Bowl for the Rebels but the opponents all vary from the Cornhuskers to Rutgers to Iowa.

Plenty of football to be played for all these to change again next week. But for now, a harsh reality of how impactful Saturday’s loss was for the Rebels.
