What is the Ole Miss athletic program's valuation compared to the rest of the SEC?
Money has and always will be a driving force in college athletics. Now more so than ever it seems with revenue share, NIL and the transfer portal creating a free agency in the amateur sports world, despite Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin thinking that is not the sole reason for his success in said portal.
But just how valuable are college athletic departments in this new era? CNBC ranked the Top 75 college sports programs and Ole Miss is one of the top 30 schools. The rankings exclude the military academies and are only FBS programs — the article stated because those are the schools that the majority of the best players go to.
CNBC spoke with people in private equity world and expertise of several people knowledgeable about athletic program valuations to help them formulate the rankings, according to the article.
The Southeastern Conference and Big Ten dominate the top 10 with six SEC schools, three Big Ten schools and Notre Dame. Ohio State tops the list with a valuation of $1.318 Billion and a revenue total of $280 million in the fiscal year 2023.

Ole Miss comes in at No. 29 with a valuation of $627 million and had a revenue total of $142 million. The school is 12th among the 16 SEC schools in CNBC’s rankings.

With revenue sharing becoming a thing in college athletics, though the exact formula is still being worked out, this helps paint a picture of what’s to come and an idea of what kind of numbers will be trickling down to the athletes at each respective school.
