There is plenty to debate as the 2023 college football season approaches but one thing that is hard to disagree with is that the Ole Miss offense has plenty of firepower and weapons at its disposal.

Particularly the positions of running back and quarterback at Ole Miss are in good hands with Quinshon Judkins, Jaxson Dart and Spencer Sanders as some of the key players.

Over the past week Pro Football Focus has started ranking its Top 10 position groups in college football for this season and Ole Miss is included.

The Rebels quarterback room is considered the fourth best in college football per PFF but what might be more interesting is the fact they have the Ole Miss running backs as the sixth best group among its respective position.

One player does not make an entire position room but Judkins is a very decent start to any team’s running back group but PFF has him ranked as the No. 2 returning running back behind Michigan’s Blake Corum, which earned the highest grade in all of college football last season at 96.2.

Judkins is enough of a starting block and corner stone that sixth place feels low as Ole Miss also gets a fully healthy Ulysses Bentley back and true freshman Kedrick Reescano now in Oxford. That trio grouped with Matt Jones and Fred McAfee, two running backs who should get more opportunities this season after good showings this spring, provides plenty of depth and options.

Still, the rest must prove they are capable backs in the Southeastern Conference in backing up Judkins.

PFF’s Top 10 RB rooms this season:

  1. Michigan
  2. Ohio State
  3. Penn State
  4. Georgia
  5. Alabama
  6. Ole Miss
  7. Arkansas
  8. Oregon
  9. Florida State
  10. Wisconsin

Plenty has been written about the Ole Miss quarterback room and how it stacks up to the rest of the SEC as a whole.

Dart, Sanders and Walker Howard provides one of the best three-headed monsters in the conference with two quarterbacks with top-level experience and another that looks the part and day-one ready potential.

There are other star quarterbacks on SEC teams and other Power 5 conference teams but it is hard to find a more seasoned position room than the one Ole Miss currently has. Do not forget the latest addition in Austin Simmons who made the late flip / commitment to the Rebels over Florida earlier this month.

Though PFF felt there are at least three better quarterback rooms entering this season and Ole Miss helps round out its top five. The three teams are obvious choices but solely because of its starting quarterback.

Ole Miss has a well-rounded room and finds itself as the second SEC team on the list behind LSU. Dart is coming off a strong finish to his first season as the Rebels starting quarterback after beating out Luke Altmyer three games in.

The experience of Sanders as a four-year starter at Oklahoma State brings in a solid pedigree and then there is Howard who spent a season in Baton Rouge behind Jayden Daniels and redshirting.

There is a reason Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin feels better about his quarterback room now than he did this time a year ago.

PFF’s Top 10 QB rooms this season:

  1. Southern California
  2. LSU
  3. Texas
  4. Ole Miss
  5. Oregon
  6. Washington
  7. Tennessee
  8. Georgia
  9. Oklahoma
  10. North Carolina
