The 2024 recruiting and transfer season is done for the Ole Miss football program — minus that couple weeks in late April — and now the work towards the fall begins.

In roughly a month’s time the Rebels and fifth-year head coach Lane Kiffin will be on the practice field for its four weeks of spring practices, boasting the nation’s top transfer class with a slew of early enrollees out of another strong high school signing class.

Throughout December and into the winter months Ole Miss has been that favorite to pick as a College Football Playoffs contender and not in a dark-horse kind of way. The Rebels went all-in for 2024 and have been rewarded as much with Top 10 rankings, creeping near the Top 5, by most media outlets that do such way-too-early Top 25 rankings.

On3’s Jesse Simonton continues the love for Ole Miss, releasing his Way-Too-Early pre-Spring Top 25 rankings on Monday. The Rebels are sitting just on the outside looking in of the Top 5 at No. 6 but also the fourth Southeastern Conference team on the list.

Georgia takes the No. 1 spot followed by Texas (No. 4) and Alabama (No. 5) and Missouri comes in at No. 10 to give the SEC half of the spots in the Top 10.

The SEC has nine teams total in Simonton’s Top 25 with LSU at No. 11 followed by Oklahoma (No. 13), Tennessee (No. 15) and Texas A&M at No. 23.

Ole Miss is getting the very early Top 10 votes due to its historic 2023 season and with how its roster is shaping up for this Fall.

Along with the top transfer class coming to Oxford, Kiffin was able to have strong roster retention success. The Ole Miss offense is returning all of its major pieces — minus running back Quinshon Judkins — starting with quarterback Jaxson Dart who is primed to have a potential Heisman Trophy campaign.

Simonton’s reasoning for putting the Rebels so high was due to that fact and his love for how the wide receivers room is looking for 2024.

“The Portal King also sniped two of Washington’s top offensive linemen, and the Rebels might have the top wideout triumvirate nationally in Tre Harris, Jordan Watkins and South Carolina transfer Juice Wells,” Simonton said.

Simonton also liked the fact Kiffin and defensive coordinator Pete Golding “recruited nearly a brand new starting 11” on that side of the ball.
