With Akili Smith Jr. already in the fold for the 2025 recruiting class, Oregon is hard at work searching for a quarterback in the 2026 cycle. The dominoes have been falling fast, particularly on the West Coast, and another one of the top arms in the country has narrowed his options.

On Thursday On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported that Frankfort Heights (IL.) Lincoln-Way East quarterback Jonas Williams is down to a final four that includes Oregon, Ohio State, Alabama and LSU.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound passer is rated a 4-star (90.00) recruit according to On3. The same system ranks him the No. 115 player nationally, the No. 7 quarterback and the No. 2 prospect in the state of Illinois.

With his 27 reported scholarships now whittled down to four, a decision may not be far off. Will Stein and the Ducks extended a scholarship offer in April and have emerged as a top option.

Each of Williams’ final schools have yet to land a quarterback in the 2026 cycle.

Oregon has been recruiting a handful of quarterbacks, but both Williams and Folsom (Calif.) product Ryder Lyons seem to be emerging as two of the top options for Will Stein. However it is worth noting that it’s looking like a possibility that Lyons will take a mission trip before beginning his college football career.

The Ducks are continuing to stay active in their search for a second quarterback in 2025 as well, with Texas A&M commit Husan Longstreet SMU commit Ty Hawkins as two of the main names to keep an eye on.

One thing is clear, Oregon has and will continue to be a destination for elite signal callers and the best passers in high school football.
