Are Oregon and Washington Destined for a Rematch?

The Pac-12 is having its best season in decades in its finale. A number of teams are in the hunt for a chance at the final Pac-12 championship. However only two programs control their own destiny, and you guessed it.

The Ducks and Huskies are on a collision course for a rematch in Las Vegas. Should Oregon win out, they are in. The Huskies have it even easier, they could lose a game and still make it. Oregon and Washington are the only two programs in the conference with 1 loss or less. (UW has 0)

Oregon could lose a game and still make it in. It would depend on who they lost to and then they would need some help based that loss.

No other scenario below matters if the above happens. It’s Oregon vs Washington if both win out and there isn’t anything anyone else can do about it.

Now of course we could go over a million scenarios. Who beats who, when, etc. Let’s stick to the basics for now.

Depending on what happens with Oregon and Washington, should either lose or lose multiple games, here are some teams with a shot. Again, assuming Oregon and UW lose some games and create an opening and only if this happens.

USC sits third currently, although it doesn’t feel that way. The Trojans need to win out, including a win over Oregon and also need some help from Utah. And that’s if Utah wins out as well.

Oregon State is next but not only do they need to win out, that would mean beating UW and Oregon to finish the season. I suppose should they do that, it would be the single most disruption in the conference and would get interesting. If they pulled this off I think they would still need Arizona to lose as well.

Utah obviously needs to win out too. And that would include wins over Washington and Arizona. They would probably need both of those teams to lose once again or Oregon to lose two of its last three.

I’ll talk about Arizona last, also a 2-loss Pac-12 team. Of course you win out, including the game with Utah. Add in some Oregon and Washington losses, a USC loss. They beat OSU but might need Utah to lose as well. They wouldn’t need all of these things, it would depend on the scenarios, but it could happen.

All I know is we have a few weeks left in this conference with some absolutely amazing games on tap. I’m openly rooting for the chaos for this conference with the exception of Oregon and Washington. The Ducks needs UW to win out, also win out, and meet the No. 4 or No. 5 ranked Huskies in Las Vegas.

That is, if you want a shot at a college football playoff.
