Atlanta Falcons Release Quarterback Marcus Mariota
On Tuesday morning the Atlanta Falcons announced they have released quarterback Marcus Mariota. The move was first reported by Adam Schefter.
This move will save the Falcons $12 million against the salary cap. It also means the Falcons are now in the quarterback market as the NFL draft nears.
Mariota was a Heisman winner at Oregon. He led the Ducks to a national championship game and threw for over 10,000 yards and over 100 touchdowns at Oregon. He also added over 2,200 rush yards and 29 touchdowns as a rusher.

Unfortunately his lone year at Atlanta was much different. This season in Atlanta he threw for 2,219 yards and 15 touchdowns against 9 interceptions.
Mariota was the No. 2 pick in the 2015 NFL draft originally with the Tennessee Titans. He spent five seasons with the Titans and then another two years with the Raiders before his season in Atlanta.
There have been no early reports on a potential landing spot for Mariota in the NFL.
