Following Oregon’s 36-27 win over USC on Saturday, Ducks’ head coach Dan Lanning opened his postgame press conference with a bold proclamation regarding his star quarterback, Bo Nix.

“That was a Hesiman-worthy performance from Bo,” Lanning said.

If the latest betting odds are any indicator, the rest of the nation took notice of Nix’s big performance, too.

According to FanDuel, Nix is now that odds-on favorite to be the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner at -110.

Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. (+370), LSU’s Jayden Daniels (+370), and Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. (+600) are the only players that FanDuel currently lists with odds greater than +3,500.

Against the Trojans, Nix threw for 412 yards and four touchdowns on 23-of-31 passing. He linked up with Tez Johnson for two scores — including a 77-yard catch-and-run — threw an 84-yard touchdown to Troy Franklin, and linked up with Terrance Ferguson for a touchdown, too.

Nix out-dueled the reigning Hesiman winner — USC quarterback Caleb Williams who went 19-for-34 pasisng for 291 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 19 yards and a touchdown.

“I just think we’re still putting things out there to where we can be even better,” Nix said. “I think that’s the part that keeps you coming back on Monday and making you go back for another week, because we know we’re not there yet. One of my biggest fears is that we’ll become complacent. So we just have to do a really good job of finding ways to grow.”

Lanning was asked if he believed there was a particular moment during the Ducks’ win over the Trojans that led him to believe that Nix is deserving of the Heisman Trophy.

“Just his consistency,” Lanning said. “I mean, to not punt the ball in the first half, I think speaks to you know about his efficiency. Not all of that was him necessarily throwing the ball. It’s him again, getting us into the right run check; him checking us in the proper plays, and just being efficient with the ball. But I’ll have to go back and watch to see if there’s any plays stuck out in particular.”

On the season, Nix has thrown for 29 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He leads the nation with a 77.7% completion percentage and ranks sixth nationally with 3,135 yards.

Nix and the No. 6 Ducks will look to further boost their College Football Playoff on Saturday when they travel to Tempe to face Arizona State, where former Oregon offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham serves as head coach.

The game is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. PT.
