Dan Lanning has done some real damage since arriving at Oregon. He’s primed the Ducks for a big run in June as well but we’ll see how that unfolds in the coming weeks.

So far, Oregon is in great shape on the recruiting front. Lanning has scored six verbal commitments and boasts the No. 12 class nationally according to On3.

Lanning’s first commit in the class came from a familiar last name. After hiring Demetrice Martin to coach his cornerbacks at Oregon, his son, Cole Martin committed to the Ducks. The four-star cornerback is the nation’s No. 126 ranked player in the On3 Consensus rankings. It was a big start to the class for the Ducks and Martin has been one of Oregon’s best recruiting commits.

It was a three month drought for the Ducks in terms of commits. The next 2023 commit came in April when Layton Christian Academy (Utah) defensive lineman Tevita Pome’e made the call. While he isn’t a national name, the defensive-minded Dan Lanning sees the value in adding the 6-foot-3, 315-pound hole-stuffing defensive tackle.

Then May hit and things really opened up for the Ducks. Which has traditionally been the norm at Oregon.

On the second day of May, four-star Jurrion Dickey committed to Oregon. A huge pickup for this staff that had been on Dickey seemingly since the day they arrived to Eugene. It’s a huge win for Junior Adams with Dickey knocking on the door of five-star status.

Dickey is currently Oregon’s top-ranked commit in 2023.

Just nine days later, Oregon scored again on the offensive side of the ball. This time landing four-star running back Dante Dowdell. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder has the makings of a great all-around back and someone the Ducks have been high on this year. Dowdell visited Oregon in early April and loved his trip. Oregon kind of hung in there quietly in the weeds but were able to seal the deal in the end.

Then Oregon hit another gear flipping Oklahoma wide receiver commit Ashton Cozart nine days later. That one really registered nationally as Cozart had seemingly been locked in with the Sooners and his visit was surprise to most. It was also a chance for Oregon to make a splash in the state of Texas where the Ducks have been working since arriving.

Lastly, but not least, is Oregon scoring a safety commit in Kodi Decambra. Again, maybe not the national name others might have but it’s another four-star addition also coming from a powerhouse program, Bishop Gorman in Nevada.
