College Football Quarterfinal Matchups Set
Oregon had the week off. But now they begin preparation for a known opponent. And as we all know already, it will be a matchup with Oregon’s biggest win of the regular season, Ohio State.
The showdown in Eugene was one for the ages. I’ve already said it was the biggest game I’ve seen in Autzen stadium in my lifetime. I still feel that way today just like I did that weekend.
We’ll get round two in the Rose bowl on January 1 and it’s shaping up early to be an epic rematch. There will be plenty of time to get into coverage of that one. For now here is a look at all four quarterfinal games and the opening betting odds.
Tuesday, December 31 – VRBO Fiesta Bowl
Penn State (6) vs Boise State (3)
4:30 PM – ESPN
Favorite: Penn State -10.5
Can Boise State and Ashton Jeanty pull off our first real upset in the college football playoff? Penn State looked solid in its win over SMU and played Oregon tough in the Big Ten championship game.

Wednesday January 1 – Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl
Texas (5) vs ASU (4)
10:00 AM – ESPN
Favorite: Texas -14
Wednesday, January 1 – Rose Bowl
Ohio State (8) vs Oregon (1)
2:00 PM – ESPN
Favorite: Ohio State -2.5
The rematch as we talked about. Ohio State is one game removed from a completely disappointing loss to Michigan but Tennessee had no answer for the Buckeyes all night. This might be the game of the quarterfinals.
Wednesday, January 1 – Allstate Sugar Bowl
Notre Dame (7) vs Georgia (2)
5:45 PM – ESPN
Favorite: Georgia -1.5
Notre Dame was probably the biggest surprise of the playoff to me. They were balanced and beat Indiana from start to finish. So how good was Indiana in the end? That’s the real question. We still don’t know. But Georgia won’t have Carson Beck so this one gets a lot more interesting.
