Dan Lanning Confirms Daylen Austin "Permitted" to Play this Season
While in Indianapolis, Dan Lanning broke some news on the team front. James Crepea of the Oregonian reports Lanning confirms defensive back Daylen Austin will be allowed to play football this season.
Austin is currently amid a class B felony charge related to a hit and run incident from April 15. Lanning confirmed Austin has been participating in offseason workouts with the team with the investigation ongoing.
“I’m anticipating, especially without having a result to that, in this situation I think you have to give the opportunity for him to be able to play,” Lanning said. “Based on all the facts that we have, I don’t think we could operate any other way, with knowing what we know. Now, is there something out there that we don’t know? There may be. But we know, every indication is this guy should get the opportunity to play football this season.”

Oregon’s football season begins on August 31 with a home game against Idaho.
The trial date for Austin is currently set for February 19, 2025. Unless new evidence is brought forward, that would likely mean Austin is going to be clear to play this season with the Ducks.
Austin signed with Oregon as a part of its 2023 recruiting class. The expectation is that the former four-star should help Oregon at the Nickel/Star position in Oregon’s secondary.
