Dan Lanning provides injury update on Oregon starting offensive lineman Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu
One of the biggest storylines to come out of Eugene during the first five days of Oregon’s fall camp has been the absence of starting offensive lineman Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu.
While meeting with reporters on Monday, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning provided an update on one of the Ducks’ more significant offensive players.
“Yeah, it’s a minor ding. I think we’ll get him back here shortly,” Lanning said when asked about Aumavae-Laulu’s status.
Lanning did not elaborate on the nature of Aumavae-Laulu’s injury. The fifth-year senior was not seen on the practice field on Monday or Tuesday and was not seen entering practice on either day.

Last season, Aumavae-Laulu started 10 games for the Ducks and played in all 14. He played 710 snaps, mainly at right tackle, and provided a steady presence along an offensive line that dealt with injuries to starters Alex Forsyth and Ryan Walk.
He nearly entered the NFL Draft before opting to return to Oregon for his senior season.
Aumavae-Laulu isn’t the only scholarship player who has been absent in recent days. Redshirt freshman defensive lineman Maceal Afaese was not seen on Monday or Tuesday. Lanning did not elaborate on his specific injury either but did allude to the fact that Afaese could be sidelined longer than Aumavae-Laulu.
“His (injury) may be a little longer term,” Lanning said. “We’ll see.”
