Dan Lanning puts Alabama rumors to rest; says he will remain Oregon's head coach
Dan Lanning has officially shot down the rumors that he is leaving Oregon anytime soon.
On Thursday, the Ducks’ second-year head coach announced that he intends to remain with UO and is not a candidate to replace Nick Saban at Alabama after the Crimson Tide’s legendary head coach announced his retirement earlier this week.
Almost immediately after Saban announced his retirement, a flurry of reports surfaced that Lanning would be a lead candidate to replace him as the head coach in Tuscaloosa.
Lanning served as a graduate assistant under Saban at Alabama in 2015 and found plenty of success in the SEC while serving as Kirby Smart’s defensive coordinator at Georgia from 2019-2021.
In 2023, Lanning led the Ducks to a 12-2 finish that culminated with a blowout win over Liberty in the Fiesta Bow.
