Dan Lanning Recaps Day One of Oregon Football Fall Camp
Dan Lanning took a few minutes with media today to talk about what he saw in Oregon Football’s first fall practice of 2024.
Below are some notable quotes;
Opening Statement:
“I thought it was a really good first day for our guys. Every coach in the nation knows you’re gonna have energy and enthusiasm day one. I haven’t been around a team that didn’t have that.”
“What I was looking for from our team was execution. We had a lot of spring practices, a lot of walkthroughs, a lot of prep time to get it right.”
“I thought we got it right today. It was a little quieter towards the end of practice where guys were getting gassed. Have to continue to work on getting in football shape.”
On how Oregon’s culture affects day one of practice:
“I think every day it shows up. Day one is when you start to see who’s gonna be the vocal leader. When they’re gassed, when does that show up?”
On what transfer defensive lineman Derrick Harmon brings to the defensive line:
“Derrick brings great experience. He’s an explosive player. I’ve been impressed with how quickly he’s picked up what we do and how well he’s able to execute that.”

On what tight end Patrick Herbert brings to the TE room:
“Patrick is steady Eddy. Every day he comes out here to work. Humble attitude, a goal for himself to improve. He’s a team player first and he’s always coaching.”
On how experience in the defensive back room will show up in games:
“Probably too early (to tell). It’s clear that we have talent and depth but probably too early to know how that experience is gonna play out in the fall.”
On when a depth chart will begin to take shape:
“We’ll assess it as we go through camp. Right now I think it’s more important that we’re getting reps with multiple guys. Instead of a guy getting 44 reps they’re getting 88 reps because it’s not just the ones and twos.”
On how the eliminated cap on coach numbers has affected practice:
“We have 130 players and before we were doing that with 10 coaches, some GAs, and myself. Now having more guys who are able to be hands-on is really beneficial to us.”
