Dan Lanning Recaps Oregon vs Purdue
Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning spoke with media following Oregon’s 35-0 shutout win over the Purdue Boilermakers Friday and addressed wide receiver Evan Stewart‘s great game, the team’s progression, and more. Below are the most notable questions and quotes from Lanning’s availability as well as my thoughts at the end.
On overcoming trap game implications:
“A lot of good, a lot of things we can look at to get better. It starts with myself but you definitely have to enjoy a win. I love the way the guys competed and our defense played well with guys making plays on the perimeter.”
On another standout game from Stewart:
“He’s a guy we’ve been very confident in and he has the skill set to do what we ask of him but I think it comes down to naturally getting it to him and getting the ball in his hands.”
On performing on a road game off a short week:
“Definitely a tight week, definitely a longer flight. But also you look at it from a different perspective, a good amount of time to get some rest on the plane which a lot of our guys did. It’s the Big 10 you know, it’s the new Big 10. It’s competitive. I think it’s very evident. You know, now more than ever, you got to come to play every single week. You know there are no cupcakes.”
On tight end Kenyon Sadiq‘s breakout night:
“When you get your opportunity, and you know you’re called upon, I think there’s a little more pep in your step, which we saw this week (from him).”

On running back Noah Whittington‘s end zone catch:
“Yeah I think more than anything, just the way he came down with it, getting his feet in. We have one football and we have a big blessing to be able to get the ball out to a bunch of weapons that are extremely talented.”
On the team’s progression from September struggles:
“We’ve been preaching growth and trying to get better with every opportunity we get. And I think you look at tonight, a lot of great things you look at and we desire a lot of great things but there are a lot of things we can be better on and continue to learn from.”
Linden’s Take:
While tonight’s performance wasn’t perfect, it’s a good feeling for Oregon fans to win a 35-0 shutout and feel like there was more on the table. The Ducks rallied on a short road week after a big game and took care of business against Purdue, starting hot and finishing strong on defense.
Oregon now turns its attention to ranked Illinois who will make the voyage to Autzen next Saturday in another Big Ten Conference first.
